23rd OVI Marker Dedication at Woodland Cemetery

July 8, 2017

Garfield Camp members are invited to attend a ceremony sponsored by the Woodland Cemetery Foundation dedicating a marker to the 23rd OVI at Woodland Cemetery on July 29 at 11 am.  The 73rd OVI Band will be performing and a tour of the cemetery will be offered.  Woodland Cemetery is located at 6901 Woodland Avenue.  More information is available here.

Private James M. McClelland Medal of Honor Headstone Ceremony

On June 17, 2017 members of the James A. Garfield Camp participated in a Medal of Honor Headstone ceremony for Private James M. McClelland.  McClelland served in Company B of the 30th Ohio Volunteer Infantry and received the Medal of Honor for his actions at Vicksburg on May 22, 1863.  Private McClelland is buried at Riverside Cemetery in Cleveland (special thanks to Mark Britton for the photographs).

Memorial Day Activities

April 22, 2017

James A. Garfield Camp members will be attending the following events for Memorial Day, May 29:

Woodland Cemetery Ceremony (6901 Woodland Avenue, Cleveland), 10 am

Lakeview Cemetery Ceremony (12316 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland), 10:30 am

Also, on Tuesday, May 30, the Cuyahoga County Soldiers and Sailors Monument (Public Square in downtown Cleveland) will be hosting a ceremony at noon.

In November the Camp met at the Chagrin Falls Historical Society.  John Bourisseau, President of the Chagrin Falls Historical Society, spoke about the Civil War monument in Evergreen Cemetery in Chagrin Falls.

In December the Camp met at the Masonic Auditorium in Cleveland.  The 2017 Camp officers and Auxiliary officers were installed.  New members were also initiated.

Oakwood Cemetery Ceremony

November 12, 2016

On October 29 members of the James A. Garfield Camp assisted the A.C. Voris Camp with a ceremony celebrating the 150th Anniversary of Oakwood Cemetery’s Civil War monument.  This monument honors the 29 men from Cuyahoga Falls who died during the war (special thanks to Paul Huff of the A.C. Voris Camp for the photo!)
